While we love to create with our own hands we also enjoy helping you to release your inner artist and create with your own!

I didn't start out to make creatures but the creatures clamour for me to make them!

Below is a selection of some things I have made but really I will give anything a go so if you want something in particular contact us for a chat. Everything I make is unique - I have honed some techniques but then the clay has a say and the personality of the piece pushes its way out.

I make too many different creatures to be able to keep everything in stock so the photos give a flavour of what I can make for you! Contact us for more details of what we have in stock or about anything you would like us to make

Our Services

MIni Make and Take: What's involved?
This session is designed for those who would like a quick taster or for those with a shorter attention span. The session is 1 hour long however if you get involved and there is availability you could extend you session.
We will guide you through making a creatute based on a cone or a hollow ball. Customers have made turtles, ducks, pigs, dragons, elephants and much more. In time I will get a gallery of ideas added to the site.
Making is with air dry clay so when you have finished you cam just take your masterpiece away (or leave in the studio for a while for it to dry a bit!)
If your masterpiece is suitable there is an option to have it fired but we need to be careful that it doesn't explode in the kiln! Glazing costs are from £3 depending on size.
 

Make and Take: What's involved?
This is a two hour session and you will have enough time to complete a creature based on a cone and hollow ball. This is our standard session. Creatures can be anything but the cone shape is best for seated figures. Customers have made dragons, hares, Welsh women, puffins, cats, sheep, seagulls and much more. In time I will get a gallery of ideas added to the site.

Your piece will need to dry fully before it is fired and drying and firing usually takes about a week but we can reduce this if you are keen to return to glaze during your stay or just to pick up your fired piece. We can discuss this at the session.

This is 2 two hour sessions.

Creatures can be anything but the cone shape is best for seated figures. Customers have made dragons, hares, Welsh women, puffins, cats, sheep, seagulls and much more. In time I will get a gallery of ideas added to the site.

Making is with clay that needs to be fired to make it permanent. Your piece will need to dry fully before it is fired and drying and firing usually takes about a week but we can reduce this if you are returning to glaze during your stay. Get in touch to discuss how we can arrange this for you.

In the second session you will glaze your masterpiece and then we will fire it again. Firing may take some time as we need to fill a large kiln before firing in order to save energy and keep costs down. If we cant fire you piece while you are here we are happy to post finished items at cost.

We are Sue and Peter Barnes and we have been sharing Ceramics through Dipsy Dragon in Dolgellau since 2016.

We moved to Dolgellau from Glasgow in 2014 leaving the stressful life of academia at the University of Strathclyde for some peace and quiet. We have found some peace and quiet but are probably busier now running Dipsy Dragon than we ever were in Glasgow. Its still stressful but now, at least the stress is ours!!
